Very perfumed and bright with blueberry, violet and dark fruit. Lavender. Full body, linear with more tannic traction. Edgy. Bright finish. Some hot stones. Drink now.
The 2014 Kata Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard is every bit as compelling as it was last year from barrel. A wine of striking freshness, energy and intensity, the 2014 exhibits notable freshness in its bright red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint overtones. Floral notes take on greater prominence as the wine continues to flesh out in the glass. The 2014 has really come on strong. Today, it gives the impression it could one day surpass the 2013. (AG)
Made from 80% Cabernet and 20% Petite Sirah, there’s even less of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard (16 barrels) than the 2013 and it too is inky purple in color (no doubt from the high percentage of Petite Sirah) and a concentrated, seamless beauty. Toasted bread, spices, cassis and hints of graphite all emerge from this lively, plump 2014 that’s much more open and ready to go than the more reserved, classically styled 2013. Nevertheless, I love its mid-palate, it has plenty of tannin, and I suspect will evolve gracefully given its overall balance and harmony. It too is a smokin’ effort to drink over the coming 15-20 years.
Pure and supple, with a delicate weight and mouthfeel to the dark berry, gravel and spicy earth notes. Ends clean and refreshing, maintaining a graceful style. Drink now through 2028. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 400 cases made. (JL)
