Distilled entirely in 1956 and bottled in 1964, this bourbon comes from the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery, which closed in 1991. This is one of the most historically important American whiskies on the market today. Finding a bottle is nearly impossible and quantities are extremely limited. This is the REAL Van Winkle whiskey, produced when Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle was actually running the distillery. Pappy was involved in the everyday affairs of the distillery from the day it opened in 1935 until his death in 1965. In '72, the Van Winkle family was forced to sell the distillery and almost all their brands to various companies. This bottling is one of a kind on the open market today. Needless to say even at this price, it won't last long.
