91-94 points from Parker… 'Among the luxury cuvees is the Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonnieres. This is clearly the most spectacular wine made in the appellation, even richer and denser than Alain Graillot's La Giraude and Paul Jaboulet's Thalabert. The 1996 enjoyed 8 weeks of maceration, resulting in an opaque purple-colored wine with the essence of Syrah fruit presented in a dominating, formidable personality. The wine is rich, expansive, thick, and intense. Although there is plenty of tannin and acidity, the fruit is driving the wine at present. It will require 3-4 years of cellaring, and will age for two decades.'
