Fresh, brilliant garnet of good depth. Powerful and penetrating on the nose, with considerable spice to accompany the plum and redcurrant fruitiness. Sustained red fruit flavors are sweet, fresh and shapely. Finishes with plush, elegant tannins. Another very fine effort from a house that has been a model of consistency since the 1983 vintage. But, as a long-time admirer of the work of owner Roberto Guerrini, professor of law at the University of Siena, I feel compelled to ask if he too might not consider doing himself a major favor by making a single Brunello di Montalcino and eliminating the few thousand bottles of Riserva, excellent as this wine can be. (DT)
The dark ruby-colored 1995 Brunello di Montalcino is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly evolved and precocious, with supple, ripe, concentrated fruit revealing notes of soy, tobacco, dried herbs, licorice, red and black currants, and cherry jam. This flashy offering is ideal for drinking over the next decade. (RP)
