The colour is very deep garnet-brick. Complex, evolved aromas of warm cassis, tobacco, leather, cinnamon and spice emerge with just a touch of hung meat. After a few minutes some menthol and smoky bacon scents come through. The medium bodied palate is very elegant with nice concentration of fruit supported by medium to high acidity and a medium level of silt-textured tannins. Long in the finish, this wine still has 6-8 years of life left.
Red-ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, cherry cough syrup, chocolate and mint. Juicy, firm and intensely flavored; a bit hot but not at all roasted. Tannins coat the teeth. As with so many '96 cabernets, I get an impression of somewhat uneven ripening. But this is built to age.
Smooth, ripe and spicy, with a pretty array of anise, plum, cherry and strawberry tones, finishing with a focused core of flavors and firm tannins.
