The dense ruby/purple-colored 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard reveals a gorgeous nose of sweet cassis fruit, chocolate, iron, and licorice. Full-bodied, powerful, and weighty, with moderately high tannin, it requires 3-4 years of cellaring. It should last 25+ years.
Slightly less dark than the Insignia. Black fruits, chocolate, mint and a hint of rust on the nose. Big, rich and sweeter than the last sample. Powerful extract and density gives this wine the sheer flesh to cover its firm structure and support its chewy tannins. Very long on the aftertaste.
Mature and drinking well, with flavors built around cedary currant, herb, green olive and spicy wood scents. Has excellent balance and length. (Web, 2007)
