Kenwood's Artist Series is Sonoma's answer to Mouton Rothschild's artist labels, and the wine was made from selected parcels of Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The 1982 label features "Greek Village," by James Harrell, an American artist who lived in Greece and Crete for many years before moving back to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The '82 is described in James Laube's 1990 California's Great Cabernets: "Tight, lean and concentrated, the 1982 Artist Series is still quite closed and compact and in need of further cellaring. The spice, cedar and plum flavours are young and undeveloped, and the tannins clamp down on the finish." Should be somewhat more mature now, then!
