Firm tannins are tightly wrapped around the solid core of currant, plum, anise, sage and cedar. Tremendous follow through on the finish, where the flavors are long and persistent.--'81/'91 California Cabernet retrospective. (JL, Web-2002)
Oakville Ranch has recently turned in a number of impressive offerings. Although frightfully backward and tannic, this 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is crammed with juicy, succulent, blackcurrant fruit. An opaquely-colored wine, it is muscular and concentrated and made for collectors/connoisseurs who have the patience to wait 4-5 years for the wine to mesh together. Massive, extracted, and impressively built for the long haul, it should be a 20+ year Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)
