Wonderful balance and supple texture, with complex currant, black cherry, anise, cedar, tar and rose petal notes. Rather defines elegance, grace and harmony. (JL)
Tasted at David Pope’s Monte Bello dinner in London. This has a lovely nose: rich but not in an ostentatious way, ripe blackberry and cassis with a touch of boot-polish. The palate is well-balanced and very Pomerol in style: damson, fresh fig with a leathery note. Secondary flavours are beginning to dominate this ’89 with some attractive all spice and clove notes, but it is well bred and certainly the best wine of an inconsistent period for Monte Bello. (NM)
