Depth of flavor makes this firmly textured wine special. It has enticing earthy, tobaccolike aromas, ripe fruit flavors, just enough tannin and a lingering finish.
The 1961 Beychevelle continues to age gracefully, but it is not in the top league of 1961s. I have always regarded it as a fruity, concentrated wine that has a voluptuous, expansive, even sweet taste.
