I would not classify 1995 as a great year for Chateauneuf du Pape, although it is certainly excellent, and overall the finest vintage since 1990, but you would never know that by tasting Andre Brunel's sumptuous 1995s. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape is a precocious, medium to full-bodied, lush, layered, complex wine offering up abundant quantities of sweet black cherry and kirsch fruit in a spicy, compelling bouquet. This multi-dimensional, low acid wine displays plenty of earth, smoke, and truffle notes to accompany the kirsch, plum, and prune-like fruit. Sweet and rich in the mouth, with an explosive finish, it should drink well for 12-15 years.
This round, soft red shows ripe flavors of cherry, raisin, herb and spice, with firm tannins and a clean finish. It's expressive and shows good typicity, but lacks depth. Drink now through 2002. –TM
