(no tasting note given)
Bright ruby. Cassis, violet and lightly tarry, spicy oak. Ripe, dense and very concentrated; thick and deep. Not at all overly sweet or dominated by the wood. Has superb material and verve. Finishes very long, with thoroughly ripe tannins. The finest vintage for this wine in a long time, and one that avoids the excesses of (American) oak that have plagued so many recent vintages.
Tasted at 'The Sampler' icon tasting in London. The nose is still very closed but begins to open with aeration with burnt match, tertiary notes and black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins quite bretty with a meaty gamey finish that is vigorous and long. Fine. Tasted December 2012. (NM)
Notable dill and tarry aromas are intense, with vivid blackberry and black cherry fruit, with touches of herb and cedar. (JL, Web-2008)
