The NV Brut Rosé Majeur is also outstanding and offers a slightly exotic style in its floral, spicy, raspberry-scented aromas. This medium-bodied Champagne has sharp acidity, solid balance, and a clean, lengthy finish. Give bottles a year. The blend is 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, and the balance Pinot Meunier, all of which spent three years on lees.
A lovely fresh pinot noir, this is focused on the herbal, spicy imprint of the soil. Its red berry scents and pink peppercorn spice frame the earthiness, while nervous acidity brightens the flavors and carries them through a long finish. Serve it with thinly sliced magret de canard, seared rare.
(45% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 25% pinot meunier; disgorged January, 2013): Light yellow. Aromas of fresh citrus fruits, chamomile and smoky minerals, with a subtle hint of white pepper. Fleshy and smooth on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering juicy blood orange and buttered toast flavors and a touch of bitter cherry pit. Closes on a spicy note, with good mineral cut and lingering spiciness. Pretty tight for an entry-level Champagne; I wouldn't be surprised if this one rewarded some cellaring.
Delicate and tangy, offering a light, frothy mousse and hints of juicy cherry, white raspberry, spice, candied currant and smoky mineral. Refined, but with an appealing liveliness and a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2016.
