A classic Pomerol, the 1998 boasts a superb, complex bouquet of mocha fudge, vanilla, black cherries, roasted coffee, smoke, and berries. The dazzlingly explosive aromatic display is followed by a creamy-textured, medium to full-bodied, beautifully-layered wine with no hard edges. A supple texture leads to a finish with notes of caramel and spice that lingers for over 40 seconds. This is a gorgeous, complex Pomerol. (RP)
Red-ruby. Highly aromatic, Burgundian nose of raspberry, roast coffee and smoky oak. Round and soft but intensely flavored and given shape by firm acids. Gentle but quite concentrated, and already very expressive. Finishes with firm but ripe, smooth tannins and very good length. (ST)
Fresh mushrooms turn to crushed blackberries on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and lots of new wood. The finish is full of vanilla and fruit. Slightly one-dimensional; a little more bottle age will help bring it around. (JS, Web-2009)
