Power gives way to polish in this eminently enjoyable youngster, and the bright, almost piquant cherry-strawberry fruit that takes the lead in the nose is also the central theme of the very clean, delicately oaked flavors that follow. The wine is medium-bodied and nicely rounded in feel with nary a hint of tannic toughness, and it should match up famously with milder veal dishes or the likes of quick-seared steaks of ahi tuna.
The dense ruby-colored 1999 Pinot Noir Russian River (700 cases) is a blend from such vineyards as Rochioli, Allen, and a handful of others. It spends 11 months in oak, whereas the single vineyard cuvees see 14 months. It exhibits sweet cranberry and cherry fruit, a hint of new oak, crisp acidity, and an elegant, medium-bodied finish. (RP)
Medium red. Aromatic nose combines cherry, raspberry, mocha and spicy oak. Sweet and supple, with modest depth of flavor but good freshness. Finishes with a slight edge of acidity. (ST)
An elegant, medium-weight Pinot with pretty, supple cherry, strawberry and wild-berry jam flavors.
