Tasting Notes

The Barnett Vineyards Cabernet is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot. This 2000 case production is filled with blackberry, plum and dark chocolate flavors which fill the glass. This is a very big wine, which shows tons of depth and power. It should age gracefully over the next decade. 92 points and a Cellar Selection, Wine Spectator: "Big, rich, earthy and distinctive. Intense and concentrated, with layers of complex currant, tobacco, cedar, mocha and black cherry flavors, finishing with ripe but austere tannins. Drink now through 2012." (05/02) 90 points Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "11% Cabernet Franc; 2% Merlot. Solid, deep, but a little tough and with a certain brooding aspect, this bold wine is a textbook example of mountain Cabernet. Its dense fruit is infused with elements of mineral, loam, and sweet oak, but its rugged nature precludes any notion of near-term enjoyment. If quite tannic, it is never outrageously astringent, and it should age well for as many as eight to twelve more years." (04/02)
