Readers may remember the tannic and austere Zinfandels produced under the Lamborn Family Vineyard label. This vineyard is now owned by the Pringle family, and Turley Cellars produces a Pringle Family Vineyard Zinfandel. The awesome 1999, which exhibits a Hermitage-like floral, blackberry liqueur, and raspberry-scented bouquet, is as elegant as a wine with 16.1% alcohol can be. Rich and sweet (from extract and glycerin, not sugar), with awesome presence on the palate as well as underlying notes of liquid minerals, jammy black fruit and pepper...This is amazing stuff!

Medium ruby. Highly aromatic nose of blackberry, licorice, maple syrup and cracked pepper. Very intense, quintessential Howell Mountain flavors of briary dark berries and pepper, complicated by an exotic suggestion of orange peel. Sappy, focused and delicious. Very long on the palate, with tannins in balance with the wine fruit.
