The dark ruby/purple-colored, sweet, dense, beautifully fruited 2000 Pinot Noir Russian River (1,400 cases) is more charming and consumer-friendly than most of this estate's Pinots.
Good medium ruby. Wild nose dominated by roast coffee and meat. Then rich and spicy in the mouth, with dark fruit flavors complicated by a meaty quality. The brettanomyces element here is not especially aggressive yet robs the wine of some of its primary fruit and verve. Still, this finishes supple, sweet and persistent.
Substantially more open and fruitier than the Sonoma Coast bottling, this is a junior version of the fabulous 1999. This wine is rich and tannic, with fleshy earth and berry flavors.
