Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Col Solare Columbia Valley Red Blend. A collaboration between Washington's Chateau Ste. Michelle and Italy's Marchese Antinori. Wine Advocate's Pierre Rovani called the 2002 bottling "unquestionably the finest to date." (04/2006) The 2002 vintage started cool and evened out to provide consistent, ideal weather for compact, concentrated grapes. The blend this year is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 10% Syrah. Tasting notes from the winemaker: "Concentrated plum, blueberry and black raspberry aromatics are joined by hints of vanilla, spice and cedar. Equally evident on the palate are raspberry, black pepper and spice layered with dark chocolate and roasted nut. The tannins are supple and refined leading to a seductive, lingering finish."
