1999 Pol Roger "Extra Cuvée de Réserve" Brut Champagne (1.5L) (qty: 3)
From start to finish, this top quality vintage follows a straight line. It starts with freshness and explodes into richness. The initial very tight structure soon opens out with white pears and green plums, soft and ripe. The fruit is supported by the structure which offers orange zest. Like many 1999s, this is almost ready to drink. (RV)
The estate's 1999 Brut Extra Cuvée de Réserve (60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay) is rich and creamy-textured in its generous expression of honey, apricots and roasted nuts. With some time in the glass, notes of smokiness and minerals emerge, adding further complexity. This medium-bodied wine possesses notable harmony and balance, with terrific length and a long, sweet finish. Simply put, this is gorgeous stuff. This bottle was disgorged December 4th, 2007. (AG)
Vivid gold. Pungent citrus blossom, pear and subtle lees on the nose, with a suave tangerine quality building with air. Plush and silky but at the same time energetic, with vibrant quince and soft citrus flavors supported by a racy mineral underpinning. Fleshes out on the long, precise finish, which is deepened by a gently toasty leesiness. (JR)
Creamy and voluptuous, this golden wine has begun to develop secondary aromas of mushrooms and smoke. It feels rich and supple, filled with the character of lees aging. For roast chicken with wild mushrooms.
