Cathy Corison says she prefers ripeness at the intersection of elegance, and this wine illustrates what she means: there's still crunch and freshness, and there's room for the glorious Cabernet fruit to express itself. Aromatic, almost floral dark fruit broods on the nose, edged with potpourri. With air the flavours swirl around, filling the palate with the gorgeous ripeness of valley floor fruit. (AK)
Aromas of wet earth and spices with sweet tobacco and currants. Fresh herbs. Medium body and ultra-fine tannins. Lively and bright. Better in 2020 but already a joy to drink.
A classical Napa Valley Cabernet, this is bright, from its color straight through its taut line of cherry flavor. There’s an herbal aspect, bringing to mind lavender and eucalyptus, spicy, clean and integrated. Firmly built, this is structured for long development in the bottle.
From winemaker Cathy Corison, the straight 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon sports a medium ruby/purple color and offers a very pretty, elegant style in its blue fruits, hints of leafy herbs, and floral aromatics. These give way to a fresh, elegant Cabernet that has light tannin, good concentration, and a balanced, incredibly drinkable style. It should evolve nicely for 15+ years.
The new 2014 Napa Valley cabernet bottling from Cathy Corison smells fairly ripe for this cuvée when it is first opened, though the label comes in at the traditional 13.6 percent octane and the wine settles in nicely once it has had a chance to breath a bit. The bouquet is very expressive right out of the blocks this year, offering up scents of red and black cherries, a touch of blueberry, violets, cigar wrapper, lovely soil tones and a discreet framing of cedary new wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and still quite primary, with a nice touch of incipient sappiness at the core, fine-grained tannins and lovely length and grip on the very well-balanced and promising finish. This looks likely to be a very elegant rendition of the Corison Napa bottling in the fullness of time, but tuck this refined Rutherford Bench cabernet away for the next eight to ten years to allow the magic to unfold properly. (Drink between 2025-2075) 92+
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark and powerful, with serious intensity. Cathy Corison's wines usually take a long time to come together, but the 2014 is surprisingly approachable. The effects of the drought are felt in the wine's concentration, and yet all the elements are in the right place. Dark red cherry, plum, licorice and menthol infuse the creamy, voluptuous finish. Deceptively medium in body, the 2014 packs a serious punch. Even so, it will drink well with minimal cellaring. (AG)
Very well-formed blackcurrant fruit, heady menthol and cherry notes. Tense, ripe, powerful and savoury. Lots of depth – worth ageing. 17+/20 points. (RH)

Cathy Corison’s 2015 Cabernet is a breathtakingly beautiful young wine, with all of its charms based in purity, balance and gorgeous perfume. The wine is a cool and classy 13.6 percent octane this year and offers up a stunning bouquet of red and black cherries, a touch of pomegranate, Cuban cigar wrapper, Rutherford Dust, refined soil tones and a discreet framing of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, refined and full, with great focus and seamless balance, a lovely core, excellent soil signature, ripe, fine-grained tannins and a very long, nascently complex and classy finish. If I were going to make a cabernet sauvignon in St. Helena, this is exactly the understated and refined wine I would choose to make! Stunning juice, but give it time in the cellar to properly blossom!
A bright, high-pitched style, featuring damson plum, red currant and cherry fruit flavors, laced with rose petal and jasmine notes, giving this a distinctive profile, while bramble-edged grip and bright acidity let all the elements play out through the energetic finish. Poised to age well. (JM)
Aromas of ripe fruit with blackcurrants, dark chocolate, hazelnuts and spices that follow through to a medium to full body with very fine tannins. A linear and fresh finish. Shows tightness and focus. Beautiful to drink now. But will age beautiful.
Chewy and warm when first opened, this wine takes time to settle into cooler tones of roses, herbs and tobacco. Its dark-berry flavors are gentle and savory, its tannins fine. Cathy Corison blends this wine from fruit grown in three benchland sites west of Highway 29, at the border between Rutherford and St. Helena.
Cathy Corison's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark, succulent and inviting. In 2015, the Napa Valley Cabernet is decidedly sumptuous by Corison standards, while the flavor profile leans toward the inkier end of the spectrum. Dark red and purplish stone fruit, licorice and floral notes are nicely pushed forward. Readers won't have to wait too long on the 2015, as it is built to deliver pleasure from the get go. (AG)
Still looks pretty youthful and purple. Correct, lightly minty, relaxed and unforced. Pure fruit flavour here! Very clean and superior. 17/20 points. (JR)
