Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Hall Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon ((92-94VN), 94WE, 94WS, 93RP). Vinous: "Graphite, ash, smoke, incense and licorice all jump from the glass in the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District, a wine that is full of aromatic complexity, nuance and structure. The typical, rich lush Hall fruit is there, coupled with plenty of underlying grip and tons of Diamond Mountain personality. A brooding, backward wine, the 2012 is going to need time to soften. (AG)" (11/2013)
This lot contains the following items:
2012 Hall Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (qty: 3)
Juicy black cherry and vanilla wrap around sizable mountain tannin making for a full-bodied experience of tobacco, clove and tar. Chocolate and dust round out the profile of a wine with prolific power and structure, along with a bright, fresh finish. *Cellar Selection* (VB)
Aromas of dill and roasted herb join a chorus of red and dark fruit in this supple, harmonious effort. Hints of cedar, black licorice and dusty, rocky earth join the mix. Ends with a long, full finish. (JL)

The other wine from Hall's Artisan Collection is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District. A simpler, backward, foreboding style of Cabernet Sauvignon, the mountain elevation gives the wine more structure, masculinity and tannin. The color is a dense purple, the wine less forthcoming and showy compared to the other cuvées from Kathryn Hall, but still impressive. Rich, full-bodied and built for 15-20 years of longevity. Kathryn Hall’s winery is certainly one of the more dramatic as well as up-and-coming superstars of Napa Valley. It seems every effort is made to propel these wines into the very top echelon of quality. There is not a lot to criticize with the multitude of bottlings, all of which offer considerable character and appeal. (RP) 93+
