Château Haut-Brion's tasting notes acknowledge that 1965 is considered a lesser vintage, but conclude that its charms lay a little longer in the waiting: "This is the sort of wine, from a great growth in a poor year, for which one must know how to wait. The '65 Haut-Brion only now is beginning to develop: it already has character; the bouquet of an old wine appears with hints of mushroom, wood. The tannin needs to age a little longer. Astonishing for the vintage."
