2005 Domaine Alain Burguet Chambolle-Musigny "Les Chardannes" (qty: 3)
This is wonderfully airy with almost wispy aromas of red and violet fruit aromas liberally laced with warm earth and underbrush that can also be found on the rich, full and sweet flavors that retain a fine sense of detail and precision on the sappy and mouth coating finish that goes on and on. Burguet has managed to preserve the elegance of Chambolle while combining it with the taut, even sleek muscle of Gevrey. As promising as the Mes Favorites if a bit more forward. *Outstanding*
There are five barrels of this fine Chambolle-Musigny, whose first vintage chez Burguet was the 2001. Three barrels are new this year (as opposed to one in 2004), and the wine is just a bit marked by the new oak. The nose is red fruity and very pure, as it offers up notes of strawberries, red cherries, lovely minerality, a touch of Gevrey licorice, floral tones and a fair bit of oak spice. On the palate the wine is medium-full, focused and transparent, with sound acids, good length, and a bit of oak tannin poking out on the finish today. This is a very good wine that would have benefited from a bit less new oak in my opinion.
