Checking in as 82% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre and 4% Grenache, the 2013 Nemesis Syrah has lots of blackcurrants and blackberry fruit, caramelized meats, smoked earth and licorice aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and lively, it's slightly mid-weight and forward through the middle, yet has exceptional purity and overall balance... Focusing exclusively on blends, Linne Calodo’s Matt Trevisan makes some of the sexist, most silky and seamless wines out there. He’s excelled in both 2012 and 2013. (JD)

Vivid ruby. High-pitched dark berry, floral pastille and Asian spice scents are complemented by zesty mineral and white pepper flourishes. Sappy and precise in the mouth, offering nervy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that deepen and expand with aeration. This concentrated, lithe wine finishes with excellent clarity and smooth, slow-building tannins. (JR)

Similarly colored to the Rising Tides release, the 2014 Nemesis Syrah (with 11% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 2% Cinsault) is a downright pretty and perfumed effort that has copious amounts of blackberries, raspberries, olive, truffle and sweet spice. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and pure silky on the palate, with no hard edges, it's already hard to resist, but should evolve gracefully. (JD)

Bright violet. Powerful, smoke-accented dark berry, olive paste, cola and violet pastille aromas become livelier and expand with air, picking up a peppery nuance and a hint of allspice. Sappy and energetic on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and cassis flavors that show seamless texture and impressive heft. The floral and olive qualities come back emphatically on a very long, supple finish that's shaped by supple, even tannins. (JR)
