Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2018 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Maltroie" (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie delivers a pretty bouquet of pear, waxy citrus rind and almond paste. Medium to full-bodied, its satiny attack segues into a nicely concentrated core that's underpinned by lively acids, concluding with a precise finish. (WK)" (02/2020)

A more elegant nose speaks of mostly white flower scents that are nuanced by ripe and vaguely exotic hints of apricot, tangerine and white peach. The succulent, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess slightly better mid-palate density, all wrapped in a bitter lemon-inflected finish. I would note that there is enough CO2 present that you might wish to decant this for a few minutes first.
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru comes from two parcels close to Clos Saint-Jean that tend to ripen quickly. It possesses quite an intense bouquet of beeswax, honeysuckle and faint peppermint aromas. The palate is quite rich and forward on the entry, offering a honeyed texture, notes of mango and passion fruit and a touch of lemongrass toward the finish. Not a long-term Chassagne compared to others, but for those seeking a slightly more buttery Burgundy, this will please. (NM)
