Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Bevan "Ontogeny" Oakville Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 700 cases of the 2014 Ontogeny Proprietary Red, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Totally dry, even though there is a wonderful sucrosity to the fruit. The wine has stunning blackberry and cassis notes, spring flowers, supple tannins and a long, multidimensional mouthfeel. It is a sexy beast for sure and best drunk over the next 15 or so years. (RP)" (10/2016)

The 2014 Ontogeny is bold, racy and opulent, with plenty of up-front dark cherry, jam, mocha, chocolate and sweet spices. Bold, racy and exotic, the 2014 offers tremendous appeal. Once again, Bevan poured the Ontogeny last in my tasting. It certainly did not suffer being tasted after all the big guns, or bigger guns, I should say. Given its price relative to the other wines in the range, Ontogeny is the wine to buy for readers who are looking for alternatives to the more sought after bottlings. This is a terrific introduction to the Bevan wines. (AG)
