Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2007 Bond "Vecina" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 98VN, 95ST, 94JS, 94W&S, 94WS) and 1-bottle of 2008 Bond "Vecina" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (97VN, 96JS, 94WS, 93ST). Of the 2007 Bond "Vecina" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A perfect wine, the 2007 Vecina provides a prodigious display of blackberries, charcoal, black currants, burning embers and a La Mission-Haut-Brion-like hot rock/gravelly character. The most tannic as well as most concentrated and layered of the 2007s, this is a long-term, but utterly brilliant wine. In many ways it reminds me of the Harlan Estate itself given its prodigious build and potential for extended longevity. It merits 4-5 years of bottle age and should drink well for three decades thereafter. Drink through 2040. (RP)" (12/2010)

A perfect wine, the 2007 Vecina provides a prodigious display of blackberries, charcoal, black currants, burning embers and a La Mission-Haut-Brion-like hot rock/gravelly character. The most tannic as well as most concentrated and layered of the 2007s, this is a long-term, but utterly brilliant wine. The 2007 Vecina is the first wine in the flight that is somewhere close to being ready to drink. Sumptuous and racy, with soft contours and tons of flesh, the 2007 is irresistible. Even with all of its opulence, the 2007 captures the essential power and structure of this great Oakville site. (AG)
Saturated dark ruby. Deep, brooding aromas of blackberry, cassis and spices. Rich, plush and very deep, showing considerably more pliancy and incipient sweetness than the 2008 through 2011 vintages of this bottling. In fact, the dark berry and kirsch flavors are downright plush and full-blown by comparison, even if this wine retains an inky quality to its sweetness. Wonderfully broad and long on the finish, with the substantial tannins fully ripe and integrated and a strong chocolate quality giving it considerable appeal today. (ST, for Vinous)
A very rich nose of currants, blueberries, raspberries galore, and stones. Full bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and a very pretty finish. On the verge of classic.
Vecina grows at a vineyard on the border between Yountville and Oakville. It's tucked into the hills, with Harlan Estate to the north and Dominus to the south, both visible from the top of the steep terraces. The vine roots run 30 feet deep through cracks and crevasses of the compressed sandstone, producing a wine with the discretion and plump richness of the best sites in this sweet spot of Napa Valley. This is floral with spicy red edges to the fruit. There's flavor interest in the tannin, which is layered and seems to hold the wine's essential character. The richness and volume of the oak are incidental; the finesse and length of the fruit are central. A great 2007, this should evolve for a decade or more.
Exhibits a pleasing, dense mix of loamy earth, mineral, graphite and dried currant, with touches of blackberry and wild berry. Full-bodied, deep and structured, ending with gripping tannins and a persistent finish. Very young and closed. (JL)
Black cherry, lavender, crushed rocks, smoke and game are some of the signatures in the 2008 Vecina. Dark and brooding, the 2008 possesses remarkable freshness and minerality that gives the wine its sense of energy. Despite its many virtues, the 2008 still needs time to be at its best. (AG) 97+
Insane nose of porcini mushrooms and dark fruits. Forest floor too. Hints of spices. Amazing. Black fruits too! Full-bodied, with an amazing finish. This is superb. So long and powerful. Needs another two to three years to come around.
Engagingly complex and layered, with a mix of dried currant, wild berry, forest floor, cedar, black licorice and tobacco flavors. Full-bodied and slow to unfold, gaining a sweetness on the finish. (JL)
Saturated medium ruby. Cool perfume of blackberry, licorice, spices and black pepper. Suave and fine-grained but still quite tight, showing little in the way of easy sweetness but also avoiding the greenness that plagues some 2008. Although youthfully imploded, savory and dry, this powerfully tannic, mineral-driven wine spreads out on the back end to coat the palate. These younger Vecina vintages are really amazingly unevolved.
