John Gilman: "It had been years since I last tasted the ’83 La Mouline, and the wine has finally reached its magical apex of quality, and is clearly one of the great vintages of this profound wine to have ever been made. In a vintage where so many of the northern Rhônes have failed to meet the early expectations, the ’83 La Mouline is a blazingly beautiful rendition of the vintage, soaring from the glass in a majestic blend of red and black raspberries, coffee, black pepper, game tones, hot stones, cocoa powder, citric tones and a topnote faintly redolent of lavender. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and velvety, with stunning complexity, a great core of fruit, melting tannins, sound acids, and great length and grip on the peacock’s tail of a finish.
