Of the 2006 Lagier Meredith Mount Veeder Syrah , Jeb Dunnuck writes: "Showing beautifully, the 2006 Lagier Meredith Syrah is a meaty, rich Syrah that is still youthful and fresh. Showing loads of blackberry and cassis styled fruits, sweet tobacco, and earth aromatics on the nose, the wine struts on the palate with a medium to full bodied, seamless, and overall elegant and perfectly balanced profile. Carole Meredith and Stephen Lagier grow meaty, spicy, floral Syrah at their vineyard on Mount Veeder. This vintage is dark and dense, yielding an earthy character against the red cherry flavors in the finish. It's refined and lasting, ready to decant for roast lamb chops and butternut squash.
Once again Lagier-Meredith has fashioned a beautiful, elegant, complex, dark ruby/purple-tinged Syrah Mt. Veeder. Wine producer Carol Meredith’s 2006 offers up abundant, complex aromas of flowers, blue and black fruits, forest floor, and earth. The wine possesses sweet tannin, exquisite balance, medium to full body, and no hard edges. (RP)
Elegant and yet powerful at the same time, the 2007 Lagier Meredith Syrah, aged all in neutral French oak, possesses a gorgeous bouquet of black fruits, ground pepper, violets, and wild herbs. Vibrant and fresh on the nose, this sports a brilliant, medium to full bodied palate that stays remarkably light and airy, possessing loads of pure fruit, fresh acidity, and a superbly delineated, focused finish. This blossoms with air, needing close to an hour to really shine; I think it will be long lived and could use a solid 5 to 8 years in the cellar and then drink well for a decade or longer. Excellent!
Missing from the Napa report in issue #186, this gorgeous 2007 Syrah Mt. Veeder displays a dense purple color in addition to a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, raspberries, and cool black currants as well as power and richness allied to elegance and burgeoning complexity. Its texture, purity, full-bodied mouthfeel, ethereal style, impeccable precision, and overall high quality suggest it will provide plenty of pleasure for a decade or more. (RP) 94+
Deep ruby. Crushed blueberry, plum and pepper on the nose, along with a tarry suggestion of creosote. Then rich, deep and large-scaled on the palate, offering more texture and depth than the 2008 but less complexity and lift today to its black fruit and incense flavors. Plenty of palate-coating fruit to buffer the tannins. Even more backward than the 2008. (ST)
Firm and intense, with a trim yet complex band of spicy currant, wild berry, mineral, sage and pebble. Very much a Northern Rhône-styled wine with its structure and minerality. Needs aeration. (JL)
