Rich in oak and rich in fruit, this deep, well-ripened offering delivers a solid measure of cassis with a wealth of vanilla and a mild overlay of dusty spice. It is moderately full-bodied and nicely balanced in feel, and its sense of developing suppleness portends very good things to come. It is also fairly tannic and a little too rough to commend for present drinking, but its admirable fruit emerges intact at the finish and points the way to four or five years of steady improvement.

This Bordeaux style blend smells and tastes like anything but Bordeaux, proving that similar blends do not produce similar wines if the terroir is different. The barrel influence is strong, as is the herbal quality. Richness on the palate comes to the rescue. There’s nice cassis and plum flavors. And the finish is smooth and classy. (MS)
