Superdark and powerful. Shows raisin, spice, coffee and violet aromas. Full-bodied, very chewy, with lots of grip and loads of fruit. Very long in the mouth. Super value. Best after 2012.
Saturated bright ruby. Very ripe, musky aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and spices. Thick, rich, pliant and sweet; approachable already owing to its creamy, concentrated fruit. Not a hugely gripping port but rich and balanced, with generous flavor and solid structure. Hints of chocolate and mocha in the mouth and on the aftertaste. Finishes with lush, spreading tannins and sneaky, building length.
A reasonably good buy in vintage Port, Silval is something of a second label for Quinta do Noval. It’s less concentrated and suppler in the mouth than its sister wine, but still boasts compelling floral aromas allied to prune, berry and chocolate flavors.
Smoky and savoury. Dry, firm and lovely savoury long finish. Rich, full but balanced and finishes fresh. Still quite a marked grip. Wait. Drink 2010-2020. (17/20 points)
