A fragrant nose with plenty of bright red florals on offer. Rose-like, musky and perfumed, this has a wealth of freshness and very subtle biscuit-like complexity. The palate's assertive and fully formed, really expands as it moves, delivering bright red berry and ripe peach and nectarine flavors. There's a little spicy twist through the finish.
A blend of equal amounts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 15 percent Pinot Meunier, this is vinified without malolactic fermentation, mellowed by its dosage. That touch of sweetness comes almost as a relief, bringing resonance to the wine’s chalky length. It lasts on red fruit and ginger, built to be served with dinner.
This nonvintage cuvée sums up the Gosset style in its precise texture and crisp, taut acidity. A blend of fruit from the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, it shows some attractive maturity. Given its balanced, perfumed aftertaste and great fruitiness, this is a Champagne to drink now. (RV)
Vibrant acidity creates a mouthwatering impression that frames the flavors of poached pear and yellow peach fruit, with notes of spring blossom and hints of biscotti, vanilla and candied lemon zest. Refined and expressive, with a long, spiced finish. Drink now through 2022. (AN)
A discreet, even restrained nose is comprised by notes of petrol, yeast, Meyer lemon, apple and a lovely floral hint. The rounded, delicious and caressing flavors are shaped by a relatively soft (though not flabby) mousse before culminating in a clean, vibrant and moderately dry finale. I like the delivery though this could use just a bit more complexity which could develop if this was given a few more years of cellar time.
Making a strong and specific Méthode Champenoise statement from first sniff to finish and a very professional and polished wine that is as refined as it is rich, this layered and lengthy Champagne reveals a little more with each sip. Slightly creamy, slightly toasty and flirting with lemons at one moment and minerals the next, it is arguably a bit too rich to be called 'refreshing,' yet it is nicely appointed with lively, palate-cleansing acidity that will hold it in very good stead with food.
Pale gold. Expansive, mineral-driven citrus and orchard fruit scents are complemented by anise, honey and buttered toast, along with a hint of peach pit. Packs a solid punch but comes off lithe and precise, with mineral-laced blood orange and quince flavors and a deeper suggestion of fresh fig. Closes on a spicy note, with repeating minerality and very good persistence. (JR)
The vibrant, golden/citrus-colored NV Grande Réserve Brut – a blend of Chardonnay (43%), Pinot Noir (42%) and Pinot Meunier (15%) – opens with a rich, ripe and intense, yet elegant and distinguished bouquet of sweet cherries, yellow plums, brioches, lemons and a hint of nougat. Round and intense on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, elegant and mouth-filling Brut. It has charming cherry fruit, and nice freshness and grip in the finish. There are lovely herbal aromas in the aftertaste. This is the generous classic of the Gosset portfolio. (SR)
Chardonnay-based blend. Very slightly woody/cedary nose, almost a touch of dried flowers with a hint of bread. Refined and brilliantly fresh on the palate with sufficient dosage to bring harmony. Long and finely textured. (JH) 17/20
