bottled shortly before my tasting) Explosive aromas of apricot, peach, minerals, creme caramel, grilled nuts and spices, along with cooler hints of licorice and menthol. Thick, sweet and chewy with extract; an impressively mouthfilling wine with lovely framing acidity. Characteristically big and peachy. Finishes spicy, shapely and very long. The class of the tasting. Tasted at an off-line lunch at La Trompette. The Rieussec 1999 has a lovely, vibrant nose with notes of grapefruit, Japanese yuzu and wild honey all with fine delineation and that vanilla-tinged patina one often finds with this estate. The palate is well balanced with a vibrant entry: attractive notes of white peach and honeycomb, leading to a very harmonious, waxy texture finish. This is an impressive off-vintage Rieussec drinking perfectly now, although it has the weight to keep. Tasted June 2011. (NM-Wine Journal)
Half-bottle. Absolutely phenomenal nose - nectarine, loads of spice and honey and lemon curd. Tremendous length and viscosity, miraculously freshened by crisp acid. A class apart - and still very primary! Magical. Drink 2009-2029. 18/20 points (RH)
