Piercing scent of slate, then the palate is awash in peach, pear and lime notes, intricately layered in the dense, yet clear texture. Beautifully defined by a firm, well-integrated structure, with an endless finish. (BS)
Prum calls this wine "typically somewhat reserved vis-a-vis the Graacher Auslese" but I apprehend a level of sheer flavor intensity that goes beyond the other wines here today, with apple, honey and spice supported by a volatile esterous note of botrytis and even a prickly Eiswein-like whiff of chili pepper. Impressive custardy richness in the mouth, yet ripe, refreshing citricity keeps the wine dynamic and salty minerality helps extend the finish. *2 stars* (DS)
Very very hot in August and then a chilly September. Just as things were looking bad, a gloriously hot October saved the day. Medium gold. Mineral dusting over delicious lime and apple and green mango fruit. Super fresh, agile, lithe, crackling with energy and acidity and verve. Lots of green apple. Racy. No waiting in the wings here. It explodes on to the stage. Dances in the limelight. Tastes like it will last forever. Wonderful! 18.5/20 points. (TC)
