The big (at least by Ridge standards) 2002 Zinfandel Dusi Ranch is a 100% Zinfandel that tips the scales at 14.8% alcohol. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose displaying an Amarone-like charcoal/creosote character intermixed with black fruit, barbecue spice, and smoky notes. This medium to full-bodied, dense, chunky, muscular, mouth-filling, teeth-staining Zin should be consumed over the next 5-7 years.
Well-ripened berries are served up with lots of milk chocolate and sweet oak seasonings in both the wide open aromas and flavors of this easy-to-taste Zinfandel. If a touch fat in feel and a little soft in structure, the wine balances its riper leanings with reasonable fruit and comes up a commendable choice for near-term service with barbecue fare.
Dark red. Superripe nose suggests Kahlua and raisin, along with a hint of herbs. Then creamy in the mouth, with superripe flavors of roasted fruits, mocha and cough syrup. The Kahlua and raisin notes return on the back end, suggesting that this Zinfandel should be consumed in the short term.
