In principle, this is the luxury cuvee from the vineyards of Haut-Bergey. The spectacular 2000 Branon is one of the exceptional efforts of Pessac-Leognan, and the 2001 is outstanding. Aromas of melted licorice, smoke, crushed stones, truffles, and black currants are followed by an elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure, dense wine with no hard edges. (RP)
Bright, full medium ruby. Very ripe, showy nose melds raspberry, cassis, chocolate liqueur and roasted oak. Superconcentrated and liqueur-like, with more obvious sweetness than the 2002. Has the sheer breadth and richness to support its big, tongue-coating tannins. A fat, high-pH wine that offers considerable early appeal. (ST)
Viscous and rich, with lots of tobacco, berry and mineral character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Close to the 2000 in quality. (JS)
