A study in balance from the warm Pope Valley region. Shows flamboyant blackberry and chocolate fruit, but has a masculine, firm edge from the tannins and acids, and is also well oaked. In fact, those tannins are big enough to age it for a decade or more.
From Pope Valley, the earthy, tannic, rustic, masculine, dark ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Wild Boar Vineyard reveals a rugged style, lots of density, power, oak, earth and fruit, and jagged tannins that I am not sure it will ever totally resolve. Be prepared for a big, beefy wine if you drink this one. (RP)
