When this wine was first produced it was a blend of three Bordeaux varietals, but longtime winemaker Ken Deis has since expanded his palate. This year’s version is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc and Malbec. A young, dense wine with significant tannins, it is marked by an overlay of well-charred oak, but the core of cassis suggests ageability.
The 2000 Trilogy, a dense ruby/purple-colored blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 7% Malbec, and 8% Cabernet Franc, exhibits notes of cedar, licorice, black currants, and herbs. Medium-bodied, with sweet tannin as well as an elegant, Bordeaux-like, slightly austere finish, this stylish, elegant effort is best drunk over the next 7-8 years. (RP)
Supple and well-balanced, with a core of delicate black cherry, plum, olive, herb and currant flavors that are complex and well-integrated. Intensity builds on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and others. (JL)
