With plenty of life left, the 1990 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne yields beautifully complex aromas of currants, roasted meats, lavender, ground pepper, and tobacco. Integrated, medium-bodied, and silky, with beautiful balance and plenty of length, this is in a great spot yet should continue to shine for upwards of another decade.
The 1990 La Sizeranne, made from yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, has begun to close up. The color is a dark purple, and with coaxing, the super ripe nose of cassis, licorice, minerals, and spices has begun to emerge. This full-bodied, tannic wine was aged in 60% new oak casks. It possesses copious quantities of black fruit flavors, a chewy texture, and very fine length. I suspect this wine needs until the turn of the century to approach maturity. It should last for 25-30 years. (RP)
Ripe, rich and complex, with deep currant, earth, oak and spice flavors that are finely woven together. The tannins are firm and rugged and clamp down on the finish. *Top 100 Wines of 1992, No. 89*
