The 2001 Sigalas-Rabaud is a really stunning young wine, with the depth, complexity and racy purity that only the very best examples of the vintage can deliver. The superb nose jumps from the glass in a blend of delicious apples, peaches, honeycomb, orange blossoms, lovely soil tones and a touch of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, focused and very crisp, with great focus and mid-palate depth, bright, zesty acids and excellent length and grip on the complex and very classy finish. This is one of the finest vintages of Sigalas-Rabaud that I have ever had the pleasure to taste. Drink between 2015-2050.
Pale orange-gold color. Orange peel, apricot, white raisin and spicy oak on the nose. Unctuous, superripe and exotic, with hugely sweet flavors of apricot and caramel. Full, fat and extremely long, but still a bit youthfully closed and firm-edged. This is less fine than the 2002 but much more massive. (ST) 93+
Smells like a gorgeous lemon tart with hints of honey. Full-bodied, very sweet and concentrated with loads of fruit. Vanilla, spice and lemons on the aftertaste. Lovely stuff here. Better than from barrel. Best after 2009. (JS)
The Sigalas-Rabaud has a ripe honeyed nose that does not quite possess the penetration or complexity of its peers. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening. This is quite tight and backward although the finish shows there is plenty of concentration that will require continued cellaring to really open up. Tightly coiled and still boasting that lovely nutty, almost Azsu-like finish, this could repay further cellaring. Drink through 2030. (NM)
