Vibrant and mouthwatering, this elegant blanc de blancs is driven by a chalky underpinning, while flavors of poached pear, apple blossom and pickled ginger play on the fine and lacy mousse. Lovely, with a long, minerally finish. Disgorged December 2016. Drink now through 2022. (AN)
Very fine bready lemon citrus aromas here; a restrained, fresh and attractively raw expression of chardonnay aromas. The palate unleashes more flamboyant fruit flavors, heading through citrus to nectarine and peach. The focus never wavers. Long, fine and pure.
A discreet nose is almost mute and it requires a certain amount of concentration to discern the cool, airy and ultra-elegant wisps of grapefruit, green apple, yeast and hints of brioche. The clean and sleek flavors are supported by an impressively refined effervescence that adds considerably to the sense of elegance on the agreeably dry but not austere finish. As much as I like the style this is not especially complex (though it’s by no means simple) though it would appear to have the ability to age and thus for those who have the patience, this may be more interesting after a few years of cellar time.
As is customary with this bottling from Rodolphe Péters, the wine is a blend of fifty percent of its base year of 2014 and fifty percent from last year’s blend, which had gone into the family solera of reserve wines that dates back to 1988. The vins clairs here do not entirely go through malo as fifteen percent are non-malo wines, with the range raised in a variety of vessels, including barrels, stainless steel tanks and cement vats and the wine spend two years aging sur latte. The new release is very good indeed, offering up a youthful blend of apple, pear, hazelnut, chalky minerality, incipient pastry cream and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is crisp, focused and full-bodied, with a good core, still pretty brisk acidity, frothy mousse and very good backend mineral drive on the long and nascently complex finish. This is very good today and will be even better with a couple of years in the cellar. (Disgorged March 2017). (Drink between 2017-2030) 91+ points
The NV Cuvée de Réserve Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut is a blend of 60 parcels in the Côte des Blancs, so 100% Chardonnay. The newest disgorgement from November 2015 is based on 2013, which was "a great year for Chardonnay," according to Rodolphe Péters. There were "102 or 103 instead of the normal 90 to 93 days between flowering, and harvest simply caused another, a better ripeness," he adds. Fifty percent of the blend is based on 2013, the other 50% come from the perpetual réserve, which is stored in stainless steel, cement and oak vats. The wine has a brilliant color, is very clear, precise and complex on the nose, displaying fresh lemon fruit aromas. Intense and complex as well as super fresh and clear on the palate, this elegant wine is still very young, but offers a stunning fruit intensity and a firm and mineral structure; there is a long and complex finish with a refreshing grip. Very promising. The Cuvée de Réserve has been in the markets since April. Dosage is 6.7 grams. 91+ points. (SR)
The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is an absolutely delicious, entry-level wine from Rodolphe Péters. Gracious and medium in body, the Cuvée de Réserve displays lovely purity in its flavors and a finessed, understated personality. Best of all, the Cuvée de Réserve is a terrific window into the style of one of Champagne's most inspired growers. This release is based on 2013, with the addition of reserve wines spanning 19 vintages going back to 1988. Dosage is 6.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2016. (AG)
