The Chateau Margaux look-alike, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District, exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of acacia flowers, white chocolate, and asphalt presented in a medium to full-bodied, well-delineated, lush style that manages to conceal serious tannin in the finish. (RP)
Bright, saturated ruby-red. Highly nuanced nose offers roasted currant, espresso, meat, mocha and underbrush. Dense, sweet and complex; a real essence of Stags Leap earth. Finishes long and juicy, with very suave, thoroughly ripe tannins. (ST)
There’s a leathery edge to the blackberry, blueberry and oak flavors, and a bigger, more full-bodied texture. The tannins also are thicker. This is the least accessible of Mondavi’s new Cabs, but such is the concentration that aging should be no problem at all.
