This blend includes fruit from Flowers estate vineyards on the far coast as well as purchased grapes from vineyards near Sebastopol in the Russian River Valley. The 2003 has the taste of a coastal storm, the pines and the sea giving it briskness, the earthy spice that connects many of the wines grown around Fort Ross to the acidic soils of these hills. The fruit is bright, with the flavor of fraise de bois and raspberry, lasting in a cool and generous finish. An oceanic pinot noir, this is a style of wine distinctive to the far Sonoma coast, here tuned by Flowers into a classic.
The 2003 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast’s (4,426 cases) deep plum/ruby color is followed by a sweet nose of raspberries, currants, spice, and Chinese black tea. An autumnal/vegetal component adds to the Burgundian-like complexity of this spicy, elegant, French-tasting Pinot Noir.
