Clos Mogador is produced by the esteemed Rene Barbier who has hit homeruns in both 2003 and 2004. For starters, the 2003 Clos Mogador, a dark ruby/purple-colored wine, offers an impressive nose of toast and smoke, earth, charcoal, and blue fruits. It is dense, layered, and very concentrated with the structure for 6-8 years of additional bottle age. (JSM)
(a blend of garnacha, cabernet, carinena and syrah) Opaque purple. Primary blackberry and boysenberry aromas open with air to display sexy Asian spice and floral character, complemented by notes of cola and smoky minerals. Velvety dark berry preserve flavors are framed by supple tannins and become spicier with aeration. The spiciness gains strength on the long, sappy, focused finish, which strongly echoes the cola note. This is livelier than the 2005, 2004 or 2003 bottlings. (JR)
Ripe and fleshy, this red offers plum, raisin, mineral and coffee flavors on a generous frame. The finish carries expressive spice and floral notes. (TM)
