The brightness of this wine comes across in a glaze of sweetness, like the brûlée on the top of the crème. The fruit, grown at a vineyard in the arid Douro Superior, still carries a touch of schisty tannins, along with notes of fresh orange and green fig. This is sleek and elegant, a 10-year-old with energy, gracefully mellowing into the complex notes of older wines that last.
A plush style, offering flavors of hazelnut, dried apricot and butterscotch, showing good complexity and length. The long finish is richly spiced and smoky, with vanilla and marzipan notes. (KM)
Deep tawny colour. Figs and dried fruit to the fore in the aroma, the same flavour on the palate but with notable freshness – more citrus. Classic Ervamoira style. Rich and full flavoured on the finish but the alcohol is well integrated. (JH) 16.5/20
This has quite a bite with acidity and a strong cut of spirit. Flavors of dried raisins and sultana put it on the dry side of aged tawny. At the end, spice and the wood aging dominate this austere wine. (RV)
