Very refined and supple, with fabulous texture, all silk and satin on the palate. Perfectly showcases Pinot’s sensual, seductive side, with cherry and cola flavors and a smooth elaboration of oak. Finishes complex, spicy and long, a brilliant wine that combines power with elegance.
Another big Pinot (15.5% alcohol), the 2004 Cargasacchi Vineyard exhibits a dark plum color, creamy style, a full-bodied mouthfeel and notions of pomegranates, black cherries and black raspberries. Earthy with good acidity balancing out the wine’s richness, it is close to full maturity where it should remain for another 5-7 years. (RP)
A very ripe but not roasted nose features notes of anise, clove, menthol and deeply pitched red berry fruit aromas that lead to attractively complex, big, rich and muscular flavors that are velvety and smooth on the mid-palate but youthfully tangy on the finish as the acidity is not particularly well integrated at present. This is a delicious and dramatic effort and it carries its substantial alcohol benignly. This isn't my style but the wine is clearly well made and with a bit of time in bottle, it should round out.
