Full red. Highly complex aromas of medicinal black cherry, mocha, licorice and black olive, with a roasted aspect and a whiff of celery seed. Sweet, densely packed and concentrated, with lush, seamless dark fruit flavors spreading out to saturate the palate. A big, firmly structured Brunello that finishes with ripe tannins and intriguing hints of iron and peat. (ST)
A crowd-pleaser that starts in fifth gear with generous smoky, cedar-like notes, vanilla, cherry, dill and white mushroom. Equally complex and creamy in the mouth with a lush, berry-filled finish.
Intense aromas of fresh raspberry and sliced mushrooms. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins. Long and structured. Needs time. (JS)
Argiano’s deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pretty, aromatic nose along with notes of super-ripe fruit, sweet toasted oak, vanilla, tobacco and earthiness on a medium bodied frame of notable length and elegance, closing with fine tannins. It strikes a nice balance between modern and traditional styles, offering the flavors of the former and the structure of the latter. Several recent bottles have all been outstanding. (RP)
