91 Points Wine Spectator: "A big, rich, expressive youngster, with dense currant, earth, mineral and herbal, cedary notes. Given the vintage, this is quite supple midpalate, with tannins that are substantial, yet ripe and integrated on the finish. Decant. Drink now through 2012. 650 cases made." (4/30/2007) (92 points Wine Enthusiast: "I have never had a Wurtele Cab that was anything less than classic, and this ’03 is right up there. It’s reminiscent of the 2000, a gorgeously structured, softly complex wine brimming with black currant, black cherry, cola and new oak flavors wrapped in near-perfect Napa tannins. Not a longterm ager, but lovely now-2010." (4/1/2007) This wine was aged in French oak barrels for 20 months with 45% new barrels. The nose is full of cassis, dark chocolate, and spice. The palate explodes with intensely focused black fruit interwoven with mineral notes, and a dark chocolate richness followed by big chewy and fleshy tannins. Big and bold yet soft tannins continue through to the long finish. This wine will evolve nicely in the next 5-7 years.
