Tasting Notes

90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Pasodoble is a blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Malbec, and 33% Syrah sourced from a 20 year old vineyard and aged for 12 months in French oak. Dark ruby/purple-colored, it exhibits an expressive perfume of cedar, spice box, pepper, blackcurramts, black cherry, and blueberry. Smooth-textured, elegant, and tasty, this nicely balanced Bordeaux look-alike can be enjoyed now and over the next 5-7 years. It is an outstanding value. Bodegas Poesia is owned by Bordeaux proprietors Helene Garcin and Patrice Leveque, with Leveque doubling as winemaker with consultation from Dr. Alain Raynaud." (12/07) . Using the tremendous, and maybe better yet comparatively inexpensive, raw materials found in Argentina Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband Patrice Lévêque have created one heck of a value here. The Pasodoble is a blend of equal parts Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah which is totally drinkable and ultimately delicious. With a nose of cocoa dusted raspberries over a bed of rosemary infused plum this is incredibly complex for such a cheap wine. Creamy, supple and mouth-filling this is a bottomless pit of fruit without losing a grasp on balance. All the blackberry, milk chocolate and cherry ripeness so commonly found in Malbec is tempered by smoky hints of expensive cigars and grilled meat. The lengthy finish dominated by the mint driven notes of Cabernet and the peppery notes of Syrah. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
